Greetings everyone, I hope that you are all having a great week thus far. This week, we begin a new focus in reading. We are reading fables and then practicing retelling key details from the fable. Along with this, we are focusing on determining the moral of the fable along with our retell. So far, so good. I encourage each family to read aloud different fables at home and hold discussions about what the story is attempting to teach. Click here for a free resource. We are also transitioning from addition to subtraction with numbers with differences to and above 1,000. It is important for each student to find the strategy that works best for them. I encourage each family to work with their child to practice their chosen strategy. This includes articulating their steps. Also, if you have done so, please click this link to sign up for your child's student led conferences. This week, our crew will focus on the follow: -reading fables -retelling key details including the moral of a fable -editing and revising their opinion paragraphs -solve subtraction problems using a place value strategy of choice. The strategies we are focuses on are place value drawing, tops and bottoms/algorithm, expanded form, and subtracting in chunks with/without a number line. Below are helpful videos of the strategies to assist with at home practice and to support your understanding of the strategy.
Have a great week!

Greetings families, I hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful weekend and are ready to tackle another week. This month, the students will host their student led conference. This is their opportunity to share where they are as learners and how they got there. It's an exciting time for you to listen and watch your child share their progress through their own words. Please see my email about signing up for Student Led Conferences (SLC). I'm excited about this valuable opportunity and I just know that our little scholars are going to rock it out. Please read below to see what we are focusing on in class. Have a great week! This week, the students will focus on...
